“Calcium and magnesium are opposites in their effects on our body structure. As a general rule, the more rigid and inflexible our body structure is, the less calcium and the more magnesium we need”*. Magnesium is the mineral of rejuvenation and prevents the calcification of our organs and tissues that is characteristic of the old-age related degeneration of our body.
It’s a Fact: Numerous studies have shown when calcium intake is high, there is a relative deficiency of magnesium, especially intracellular, or inside the cells themselves. Other studies by Harvard clearly demonstrate men with high dairy intake increased the metatastic aspects of prostrate cancer.
While it’s recommended to have a 2 : 1 ratio of calcium (that’s twice the amount of calcium) to magnesium , a 1 : 1 ratio, and in some cases there might be a reverse 2:1 ratio of magnesium being the 2 while calcium is the 1 — there are things to consider. Is your diet high in calcium, do you have any health problems, or reasons that may not allow your body to get all the magnesium from your diet that it needs? If this might be the case, transdermal magnesium may be the easiest way to remedy the situation and automatically take care of keeping the ratio correct. The body will not over dose by taking magnesium through the skin.
According to Dr. Sircus, and the many studies he quotes, getting enough magnesium is one of the most important things we can do to protect our health. Getting the correct amount of magnesium not only prevents too much calcium from building up in our body, it actually helps calcium do it’s job more effectively.
“If not enough magnesium is taken with calcium, it will cause more harm than good. The unabsorbed calcium can lodge anywhere in the body and provoke practically any disease. For instance, if it lodges in your bones and joints, it leads to some form of arthritis; if it lodges in your heart, it leads to arterial lesions; it provokes respiratory problems if is lodges in your lungs, etc.”*

It is medical wisdom that tells us that magnesium is actually the key to the body’s proper assimilation and use of calcium, as well as other important nutrients. If we consume too much calcium, without sufficient magnesium, the excess calcium is not utilized correctly and may actually become toxic, causing painful conditions in the body. Hypomagnesemia is a prominent manifestation of magnesium deficiency in humans. Even mild degrees of magnesium depletion significantly increases the serum calcium concentration.
While we have no reason to question the importance of calcium in bone strength, we have plenty of reason to doubt the value of consuming the large amounts of calcium currently being recommended for adults and young people alike.
If you are eating properly, you are already getting sufficient calcium (appoximately 800 milligrams daily) into your body. Milk drinkers may get 1200-1500 milligrams from their diet alone and without proper magnesium restoration may result in calcium overload.
Sadly a significant percentage of adults consume more than 2000 milligrams of daily calcium; the point where side effects of over – dosage begin.
